If Opticabase does not start on your main computer and you get a similar message to:
ODBC connection error. Cannot connect to Reception\SQLEXPRESS
This means that the program SQL has not started when the PC was turned on.
To fix:
If you have an icon next to Opticabase on your desktop “Start SQL” then double click on that. A black box will appear and just wait 30 seconds until it says “Now click any key to continue”. Then press any key on your keyboard.
If you DO NOT have an icon next to Opticabase on your desktop “Start SQL” then:
- Open control panel (Windows 7 – click Start and then “Control Panel”. Windows 10 – RIGHT click on the windows start button and then click “Control Panel”.
- Top right make sure it says “View By Small icons”. If it doesn’t then use the drop down menu to change it from “View by Category” to “View By small icons“.
- Click on “Administrative Tools” at the top of the list.
- Double Click on “Services”
- Scroll down to “SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS)” and right click on it.
- Then left click on “Start”
- Check that SQL Server Browser (2 lines below) says running. If not, right click on it and left click “Start”.
- Wait for the Pop Up box with the line moving across to disappear then close all the windows and open Opticabase.
If SQL Server will not start either using above or using Start SQL icon, then try turning off your anti-virus program (specifically Bullguard) and then try again. You should then be able to turn the anti-virus on again once SQL has started.
